The idea originated from a comment being made about three years ago, ‘Do you think it would be possible to get Banksy to paint something small on the side of the castle tower?
A year later David stumbled upon the work of the sao paulo crew (Os Gemeos, Nina and Nunca) on the internet, which re-kindled the enthusiasm for the project. Apart from falling in love with the vibrant work by these contemporary artists, thier work seemed to fit perfectly with the innate magical qualities of Kelburn.
Obviously this was still just wishful thinking, that we would ever be able to get these outstanding artists over from Brazil to Scotland. However, a great friend of ours, ‘Camilla’, had a friend in Germany, Christoph Tornov, who actually knew Os Gemeos personally which gave us a good start up connection, that we hoped could one day make this project become a reality…..

A Message from Lord Glasgow
“When my son, David, and daughter, Alice, came to tell me they had secured the services of some Brazilian artists to paint graffiti on the back of Kelburn Castle, I thought they had gone mad. Because the castle is to be re-harled within the next three years (the outside protective pebbledash to be taken off and replaced), they thought this a marvellous opportunity to cover parts of it with fantastical multi-coloured illustrations in the meantime. When I had recovered from the shock and found time to learn something about the Brazilians’ work, I gradually, tentatively, came round to the idea.
The artists are Famous in South America and well known to cognoscenti in the art world here but, until now, most of their work had been done on flat walls. The idea of having a castle in Scotland with towers and turrets and windows to work on (and around) appealed to them and now appeals to me. As far as I know, nothing like this has ever been attempted in Scotland before and the clash of cultures will give the whole enterprise an almost surreal quality. Now, I wait with both excitement and trepidation, to see the result.”
