The directors for the project are Alice and David Boyle and Camilla Wegener. Alice and David are the children of Patrick and Isabel Glasgow, heads of an ancient lowland Scottish clan, and the oldest family in Scotland to have continuously inhabited the same historic home, Kelburn Castle.
Alice has recently completed her master’s of design in interior architecture at Edinburgh College of Art and David has a small architectural practice on the west coast. Both Alice and David, however, have their roots firmly in art and sculpture, and this is an opportunity for them to be leading something more ground-breaking and adventurous. Camilla is currently completing a Masters in contemporary art theory, and between the three of them, they have built up a strong supportive network of people and institutions who are enthusiastic and excited by the concept, and keen to assist in the production of the project.

Juggling my work as a designer and working to make this project a reality is not proving easy, but how many people are in the privileged position of having a building like Kelburn as a canvass and a dad as liberal as to allow his home to be transformed into a multi-coloured piece of fantasy art!
I still clearly remember casually discussing the concept of this project with Alice and some friends nearly a year ago now, and the vivid feeling of ‘if only’ that we all felt. Now, with Historic Scotland’s backing and the artists arriving in 3 weeks, I still have difficulty grasping the scale of what really is going to happen and how we got here without a huge spanner in the works.
I just hope everyone can share in our excitement and anticipation as we wait for this monumental work to begin. Hope to see you here!

I am usually based in Edinburgh; however, I have recently come home to continue working on the graffiti project. My Dad is very liberal and creative and has practically let David and me have artistic licence in the running of this project although not saying there has not been any arguments!
If Kelburn were not struggling financially a project like this would never come about, because everything becomes just too precious. Both David and I have both had artistic backgrounds, so generally all of our ideas never tick any profit making boxes. However we thought an opportunity like this could not be missed!
I know there's likely to be a controversy, but I keep focusing on the artistic credibility of the project and remembering back to when we thought this could never happen... There is no going back!

After having stumbled over one or the other obstacle, we’re now ready to start dressing Kelburn Castle in graffiti in a few weeks time. On the grounds of Kelburn any event seems to metamorphose into something unique. So my personal vision to make the upcoming procedure of ‘graffitiing’ the castle as unconventional and magical as we possibly can is about to come true.
The graffiti project should be just as much about breaking down social barriers as it is to let cultures clash in order to create a collaborative explosion of art. Creating a project of extreme contrasts can result in something unexpectedly democratic. One aim of the event is to approach a wide diversity of people. Another ambition is to make the four Brazilian artists fall in love with Scottish dancing like I did when I first came to Kelburn ten years ago. I’d like to especially thank Patrick Glasgow for trusting us with this project.

To all those cynics who say ‘everything’s been done’. Hello!
Kelburn is a magical place where almost anything can happen, so - graffiti the castle – sure why not! I’ll get the paint – and you raise enough sponsorship to fly the world’s best artists from the other side of planet earth to Kelburn. Phased out- not us - this is a ‘can do’ team. I used to work at Kelburn in the late eighties and came back recently after thirteen years away. Now I remember why I came back.
David, Alice and the team have put their head, hands and heart into this project and with determination like that, achieving dreams is not only possible but probable.
Welcome to the surreal psyschedelic mayhem which is the graffiti project.

I'm a girl friday available to help with anything at a moments notice - thats the way it is at kelburn, a lot of fun. I live on the estate with my husband Chris so we know and love the place . Kelburn and the graffiti project have good karma surrounding it. The artists are such lovely people too, it makes for a great atmosphere.

Newcastle based Honest Error are made up of Elliot Thomson, Keith Daniels, Adam Finlay and Stephen Agnew. "All 4 of us are video artists and when the opportunity arrived to work with the Graffiti Project team, we jumped at the chance. We are going to be documenting the month long project and coming up with a site specific video installation for the castle. We cannot wait to be in such a beautiful part of the world for a month."

I found out about the Graffiti Project relatively late in the day, but that didn't affect the feeling of inspiration and excitement that I got on discovering the ambitious plans the team had. Having developed my organisation Global Voice around a vision of following our dreams and going on adventures to challenge what we believe to be possible, the Graffiti Project fitted right in!
With the time fast disappearing until the project begins we've had to develop the website in super-quick time but we're getting there and I hope that it manages to invoke the excitement in everyone who visits the virtual world so that they get themselves there in person. This is the kind of project we dream of and I can't wait to join the team in Scotland for what is undoubtedly going to be an experience I will remember forever.

I have known Alice and David practically all of my life and when I found out about The Graffiti Project I jumped at the chance to be a part of it. I have to admit I was slightly apprehensive at the mention of the words graffiti and castle in the same sentence, but as you will all find out, this is something completely different. When Alice showed me the work of the artists I was very impressed and I am excited to be a part of the team.

I am so excited to be a part of such a historic event in a place that means so much to me. I have been coming to Kelburn all my life and when this project arose, I jumped at the chance to get involved.
Hopefully this will help to raise the profile of street art to the status that it deserves.

When the opportunity arose to perform as part of this project, we all jumped at the chance. The idea of these amazing graffiti artists coming all the way from Brazil to paint a rural historic castle in Scotland is incredible...almost crazy. The concept certainlly blurs a few conventional boundaries and is a fantastic and original way to bring together two different cultures.
